Money and paperwork: We will reserve a room on campus to collect money and paperwork before the season starts. This won't be a formal meeting, just in and out to collect, but we will answer questions if you have any.  Club sports is going to be much more strict about players having participation agreements (the two page form complete with a photocopy of health insurance card), and they require us to give them a copy of our rosters - this means that you must have all of your paper work and money turned in before you play.  We (including the refs) do not have a choice in this matter, so we can not make exceptions.

The time and location for the collection will be posted when a room is reserved.  When that time comes, please submit all papers and money in an envelope with  your name on the outside.  If you can't make it to the collection  Multiple players (or entire teams) can share an envelope, but make sure individual names are listed on the outside.  This is both for our convenience and for your sake, to make sure your money and papers don't go uncounted.

Rules Update: Scroll to the bottom of the page for clarification of items, such as rain delay policies, that were put into effect before the Fall '09 season and will carry into this Spring.

Notes on the Spring '10 Season:

In case you didn't play this past Fall, two new policies were put into effect at the beggining of this year that will carry into the Spring and all future seasons.  They are as follows:

1) Goalies play for FREE. We are doing this to encourage more goalies to join the league.  Last season, there was a very high ratio of skaters to goalies, which resulted in larger teams than we would have liked, as well as individual players being randomly placed on teams that already had "full" rosters of players that knew each other.  The price for skaters this season is still $45.

2) A team can have no more than a combined total of three players that compete at a Collegiate level (D1 and B Roller Hockey, D1 and D2 Ice Hockey).  Collegiate goalies that will be skating out and Collegiate skaters that will be playing in net do not count towards this tally.

All other information regarding the IM Leagues remains unchanged from previous years, and may be found below.

Here's everything you need to know about the IM league:

- We'll be running all IMs at the local YMCA.  The YMCA is located at 677 W. Whitehall Road (accessible from either Waupelani Dr. or University Dr.), only a couple minutes drive from campus.  If you haven't been there before, the rink is way better than Bigler was: bigger rink, smoother surface, nice benches, excellent boards, regulation nets without holes...

- The price will be $45 per participant, either cash or check made out to Penn State Roller Hockey Club.  In the past IMs have been $40, but since we don't have the campus rinks, we need to pay to use the YMCA rinks, plus pucks are more expensive than balls.  

- In addition to signing up, players must fill out a University Participation Agreement to be handed in with their league fee. (here is a link to the participation agreement).  You MUST include a photocopy of your valid insurance card (the University requires it).

- Games will be played primarily Mon-Thur nights between 5:30 and 9:30, but we will most likely also play weekend afternoons (2-6) if we have a decent number of teams so we can get more games in.

- REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Skates, helmet (facemask not required), gloves, shinpads, stick.  Elbow pads and a cup are highly recommended.

- Goalies do NOT need to wear skates.

- The leagues are NON-CHECKING. There is always going to be incidental contact, but we (the management and referees) have played both Ice and Roller throughout our lives, so we know - and you know - the difference between that and actually trying to full-out hit someone.  The refs are going to be on the lookout for this, and you're going to the box if you do it.  If it becomes a persistent problem with a team, further actions, such as suspensions, may be taken.

- We are not ordering jerseys this year. The companies are just too slow and unreliable to make it worth it (in previous years, jerseys didn't come in until the end of the regular season).  Feel free to work out team uniforms on your own, whether they are t-shirts, custom jerseys, solid practice jerseys, NHL jerseys, etc.  Just make sure your whole team has access to one dark and one light jersey each so you don't have any color issues with your opponents.

- We will be using a puck (a Rocket Puck, specifically, which is the current official puck of most national roller hockey organizations).  The league will provide pucks, but if you have any Rocket Pucks or IDS Pucks, bring them just in case; once the sun goes down, it's very difficult to find dark colored pucks that have been shot out of the rink, and when it gets colder, pucks are more likely to break if they hit the post.

- Each game will be three 15-minute periods, running clock.  If the score is within two points, the last two minutes of the third period will have clock stoppages.  Ties in the regular season will go straight to a three-round shootout.  In playoffs and tournaments, ties will go to a sudden-death overtime period, then followed by a three-round shootout if needed.

- If you are interested in reffing, please email Kirky at kirkypsu@gmail.com. We can always use applicants, and you will get paid $10 a game (all at the end of the semester). No reffing experience is required; as long as you've played before and you know the rules you're qualified.

- Finally, PLEASE make full use of this website and use the Forums page to post ANY useful comments or helpful suggestions (especially those players who have participated in IMs in the past) to help us make this season as smooth, enjoyable, and competitive as possible.

Important Additional Rules

- Fighting: Fighting will not be tolerated.  Any player who engages in a fight will be ejected from the League at the discretion of the Ref and Head Ref.

- Rain Policies: Any game that is called on account of rain before it starts will be rescheduled for a later date.  A game that is called before the halfway point will also be rescheduled. If a game is called during the second half of the 2^nd period and there is a differential of 5 or more goals, the game will count. If a game is called at any point in the 3^rd period, regardless of differential the game will count.

- Mercy Rule: If a team is ahead by 10 or more goals at any point in the 3rd period, the game will end with the score as it stands.
